Abstract
This overture can be performed without the wind instruments if the small notes in the string parts are played. The latter can then be rendered with good effect by solo instruments.
The oboe parts can be played by flutes, or the latter may double the oboe parts. In larger orchestras two bassoons should be employed, except in the portions marked "solo". In the absence of oboes, the parts could be played (without transposition) on C clarinets, or (transposed) on B flat clarinets
