Abstract
This work was commissioned by the Hopkins Centre in celebration of the bicentennial anniversary of Dartmouth College, hanover, New Hampshire, U.S.A., where it was given its first performance on 23 August, 1969, conducted by Mario di Bonaventura.
The first European performance was given by the London Sinfonietta conducted by David Atherton in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the 24 November, 1969.
